Alex Ortiz Injured at Vegas to Reno BITD Event, but Recovering Well

Alex Ortiz was Iron-manning the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race this past weekend aboard his Yamaha Raptor 250. The race was 534 mile start to finish. Alex was riding by himself.

Alex was in an accident. He was riding in some silt under very dust condition. He got stuck for a second and was hit from behind by a UTV at about 35-40mph. He flew about 15ft. The driver and co-driver of the UTV stayed with him the whole time and got in touch with Alex’s mom to let her know what was happening. He was taken by helicopter with his mom to UMC trauma to be checked out. He had hair line fractures to L1 and L2. They said he should be fine. No surgery just a back brace for a week or two. So in the end all is well. After spending 35 hours in the hospital Alex was sent home.

This young man is only 14 years of age and holds many Championships and Race wins in the WORCS program. Alex lives for Off Road Racing. Alex has a love and passion for ATV racing that is unmatched in today’s industry.

Alex has been at home recovering. He got home last Saturday night from the hospital. He has to wear a back brace when he is out of the house, but other than that he is doing fine. He has a touch of pain and discomfort but nothing more than that. No pain meds at this point. He feels good and is already bored. He should recover with no side effects.

“Thanks to all the friends and family that help and supported us. Thanks to all our sponsors that helped us with getting Alex Ortiz to the race. We will keep you updated on Ortiz Racing.” — James Ortiz

Glad to hear things worked out for the best, and we wish the best and a speedy recovery!
