Temperatures were cool and the skies overcast in the California desert as GBC Motorsports riders enjoyed another action-packed weekend of racing. Saturday’s Dirt Series finale and banquet at Pala Raceway was followed Sunday by Round 9 of the Yamaha Quad-X Series at Cahuilla Creek MX. Some racers made the most of these racing opportunities by making the trip out to both events.
Dirt Series Round 8 – Pala Raceway
This 8th and final round of inaugural Dirt Series season took racers to Pala Raceway for a special grand prix style race. Dylan Dixon started his weekend off on the right foot with a victory in the Quad 450 Pro class. Dixon easily claimed the season title, winning five of the six races he participated in.
Joey Berg finished 4th at Pala and finished 2nd in the Quad 450 Pro-Am class. Berg won three races this season and qualified as a Series Overall Podium Finisher.
Javier Palacios is among the many to enjoy GBC’s Bomb Squad MX tires this season. Like his fellow GBC riders Dixon and Berg, Palacios rode the Bomb Squads to several race wins this season and finished 1st in the Quad Open class.
Justin Christensen also turned some heads with the Bomb Squad MX tires, winning five races including the final round to take the Quad 450 Intermediate title.
Kayla Smith finished a nearly perfect season aboard her GBC Dirt Commanders with her sixth UTV 700 victory out of seven races. Along with taking the UTV 700 title, Kayla proved that she has the talent to race with the best, as she won the only UTV 1000 class race that she participated in for Round 5.
GBC Motorsports is proud to be a part of great local racing and especially the 2012 Dirt Series season. Along with attending many of the races this season, GBC Sales Rep and former ATV Pro Kory Ellis was at the awards banquet to give away a set of Bomb Squad MX tires as well as a set of the brand new Kanati Mongrels.
The 2013 Dirt Series schedule has been posted with more details expected in coming months. The action will kick off in March on the new ATV/UTV track at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park. Visit www.facebook.com/thedirtseries for more information.
Yamaha Quad-X Series Round 9 – Cahuilla Creek MX
Just three points behind the Pro-Am leader and coming off a Round 8 sweep, Dylan Dixon was poised to make some noise in the penultimate round of the 2012 Yamaha Quad-X Series at Cahuilla Creek. Dixon put up another solid performance in Round 9, winning the first moto and finishing 2nd in moto two for an overall 2nd place finish in the Pro-Am class.
Dixon’s 6th podium finish of the season catapulted him into a 14-point lead in the standings. With just one round remaining, Dixon is in to wrap up the title at the Quad-X finale, scheduled for Saturday, November 10th at Glen Helen Raceway.
