Yamaha-mounted ATV riders won 12 GNCC class championships, the most of any manufacturer, in Foxburg, Penn. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Dave Simmons highlighted the championship haul by winning his eighth event and clinching his 11th career GNCC title in the Super Senior (45+) class. He also battled riders half his age to take the overall win in the Saturday morning event. Yamaha riders also took home an additional 29 podium finishers on the complete line of ATVs, from the Raptor 90 through Grizzly. There are still two more events left remaining in the 2013 GNCC season, beginning with St. Clairsville, Ohio on Oct. 12.
Steady rainfall turned the Pennsylvania cross-country course into a mess. In the afternoon race, Walker Fowler finished third in the premier XC1 Pro class, his seventh podium of the year. After getting a mid-pack start, Fowler moved his YFZ consistently up field, taking sixth place on the first of four long laps before advancing into third at the halfway point. By lap three, the Yamaha rider had entered into a heated battle for second place with rival Chris Borich, with the pair swapping positions several times. However on the last lap Fowler got bogged in a deep mud hole, losing nearly three minutes in the process. Fortunately he was far ahead of the next rider and able to retain third place after breaking free and continuing on to the checkers.
