Saturday's night main featured some awesome TT racing to say the least. Unfortunately only 222 entries and only a thousand or so spectators witnessed it. The TT portion of the GNCs are exciting as all get out, but lack rider support for some reason. Regardless, an awesome pro race was in the works for those on hand - for those that missed it - here's the scoop...
Shane Hitt (Sparks/Kames) rocketed out front early on. National
champion, Jeremiah Jones (Klotz/Sparks) kept Hitt in check in the two spot.
Tim Farr (Baldwin/DG) got tangled up with Hitt off the start. Farr somehow
saved a "for sure" crash but found himself second to last off the
start. His work was definitely cut out for him. The crowd witnessed one hell
of a show as Farr worked his way through the pack in the kind of nail biting
drama that Farr typically provides after a bad start.
While Farr was cleanly passing rider after rider, Jimmy "Superfly"
Elza held on to a tight third place position with Kory Ellis (Alba/ATV Scene.com)
tied to his every move. Ellis finally found room to slip by after lap 11.
Ellis could hear Farr's footsteps like a veteran NFL receiver as Farr steadily
narrowed his now fourth place ground on him. Elza faded with a few laps to
go and Ellis ended up giving way to Farr's feverish pursuit on his podium
position. In the end it was Hitt, Jones and Farr cashing in on the big bucks,
while Ellis and Keith Little (K&K/ATV Innovations) finished up four and
five respectably.
In the 4-Stroke Pro-Am Kory Ellis rode the wheels off his Powroll tuned Lonestar
YZ and won yet another main event after passing his way from fourth in one
of the most dramatic races of the night. Chris Gary would get his first podium
finish of the year for his second place ride and East Coast ATV's Dustin Wimmer
also took home his first ever podium in the Pro-Am class with third place.
Baldwin's Tim Farr snuck inside of Shane Hitt in the 250 Pro-Am class. Farr
kept his lead position as Kory Ellis found room to move into second. At race's
end Farr won, Ellis finished up with another great finish for the night, and
Hitt cruised in with third. Kentucky's own, Zac Willet (Nac's Racing) followed
in fourth with teammate and fellow "Kentucky Kultman" Jimmy Elza
in fifth.

Tim Farr walked away after a perfect holeshot in the Open Pro-Am
class but Jathan Seale kept Farr honest in the two spot. The two pulled away
from the rest of the pack and let Dustin Wimmer battle with the rest of the
field. Wimmer took home another podium spot by claiming third.
Jathan Seale swept the Open A and 16-24 classes on his Honda CRF450. Kenny
Marcou got out front and stayed there as he won the Plus 25, Plus 30, and
Plus 40 class on his Banshee. Impressive? No doubt!
Fast-Trak Production Class Series
The Final round of the Fast-Track Production Class sent Iowa's
Jason Watt (Pro Motorsports) away with a smile. The reason the class was developed
was to see what kind of interest GNC riders might have with production based
rules. The response wasn't too bad at all. Over twenty riders competed in
the two round series (Ft Dodge, IA and Bardstown, KY).
Watt lead the new class in points after the first round. He would need to
beat Scott Butler of Lonestar, who happened to be putting up one of the grand
prizes for the class - a set of Lonestrar A-arms, (Butler heads Lonestar's
product development). Watt finished up fifth, ahead of Butler's seventh place
- and won the series. "I think this is the wave of the future. There
are so many riders out there that have nothing to do with ATV racing because
it cost so much to build something competitive. The future of the sport in
my opinion is racing what a person can buy from the showroom. I think Fast-Trak's
idea on this class should be taken to the ATVA for the 2003 season. I would
like to thank Lonestar Racing for their sponsorship and Cannondale for building
a race winning machine right out of the box", said Watt of his inaugural
production crown.
As for the rest of the Fast-Trak Production class action in Bardstown, Tim
Williams grabbed the the holeshot on his Yamaha Raptor, but Danny McGraw,
also Raptor mounted passed him through the S-curves and take over the lead.
As Williams faded in later laps, Jeffrey Hillian (Honda 400EX) made his way
around and took the win followed by McGraw, Brain Steele on his Cannondale
and Brain Hughes (Honda 400EX). Watt (Cannondale) guarded his position in
front of Butler since it was the series overall spot. Butler tried to slip
the Cannodale he borrowed from Kory Ellis past Watt but couldn't make it stick.
Watt held on to his fifth place spot and cashed in enough points from the
two events to win the championship.
The series was scored in motocross fashion, (round one in Iowa
and round two in Kentucky).
The overall results for the class are as follows;
1. Jason Watt (1-5)
2. Danny McGraw (6-2)
3. Scott Butler (2-6)
4. Norris Quinn (3-9)
5. James Shields (5-10)
Special sponsorship thanks for the Fast-Trak production class go to Lonestar
Racing, HSD Racing (contributing a trick looking set of Strong Arm A-arms),
Wiseco Piston and Maxxis Tires.
