Jones Dominates
Moto 1
The sound of fourstroke thunder echoed through the hills of Hi-Point Raceway
as the 440cc superthumpers of "Digger" Doug Gust (TC/Hinson), Jason
Luburgh (TC), Tim Farr (Baldwin) and Kory Ellis (Bill's Pipes) followed suit
to lead the twenty-rider field. Meanwhile Jeremiah Jones (JPMX) and his twostroke
Sparks Racing powervalved 250R charged hard, railing the outsides of the first
few "S" turns. Jones, not surrendering to tucking into a 6th or 7th
position, held the throttle wide open through the outsides of the turns and
down the legendary Mt Morris staircase. This maneuver put Jones in the tree-spot
by the time the field got somewhat sorted out. It didn't take long for Jones
to find his way to the lead from there. He then checked out and raced himself
to the checkers. Gust held on for second, while California's Kory Ellis pressured
Gust some for the two-spot, but settled for a respectable third place. Farr
and Shane Hitt (Sparks) rounded out the top five.
Gone
As the gate fell and gave way to moto two, Gust and Jones dropped the hammer
and the twostroke vs. fourstroke drag race up the hill was on. The two, only
inches apart, weren't about to back off one bit. Jones never let off one but
for the left hand sweeper. He just narrowly got the edge and led with Gust locked
to his rear fenders. "Digger" Doug held ground, but not for long.
As each lap went by, Jones pulled that much further ahead.
"I thought everyone would have gone home and trained hard during the three
week lay off", said Jeremiah Jones after going 1-1 at this year's Mt Morris
GNC.
"I was a bit disappointed with my moto finishes today, but it is hard
to complain when you are standing on the podium. I am looking forward to the
month of July which includes three TT races close to home," said Farr following
the race.
