2001 Maxxis Tires Country Rockin' & Racin' Festival
August 24-26, 2001 -- Edmonton, KY
-- Cumberland Parkway Motocross

The Kentucky HeadHunters newest album Songs from the grass string ranch were among many that the band played that night.

Murietta CA's Kory Ellis made the long haul to Kentucky to win the event on his YZ 440. Ellis pocketed a cool $5000 for the win.

The Country Rockin' & Racin' Festival was a hometown reunion for Jeremiah Jones, who scored a third place against the world's best pro ATV racers at his local hometown track.

With Maxxis Tires sponsorship, Fast-Trak Promo, Inc.delivered a major country music festival on the infield of the beautiful, scenic - Cumberland Parkway Motocross facility for a never-been-done-before extravaganza! The event featured ATV professional motocross and professional ATV Freestyle motocross under the lights right along side the country music jam!

Australia's up and coming superstar, Sherrie' Austin opened for the hometown Kentucky Headhunters, who live only ten minutes from the track. The concert marked the first time the Headhunters ever play in front of their hometown fans.

Only 60 riders showed their ATV spirit and got involved in the first ever translation of top notch country music and high flyin' ATV racing. Regardless, those that did attend got double time on the beautiful hillside motocross track in southern KY. Racers raced a total of 4 motos. Except for the big $10,000 pro race, this was ran in a heat and a main event fashion. 16 riders put their race face on and eagerly awaited the gate to drop. Shane Hitt quickly pulled to the front but was passed by Dana Creech just as fast.

Creech dominated the main event for more than half the race with Shane "Dog" Hitt keeping him in check in the two spot. Hometown hero, Jeremiah Jones trailed in the five position with a goggle problem. Jones would later charge to a hard earned second place. Hitt pressured Creech and spoiled his hopes to lay claim to the five grand awaiting at the finish. The two got tangled up while dicing it out in a sweeper. While they yanked back and forth to free up themselves, Powroll's Kory Ellis cruised by, held the lead for two laps and took the big win in front of a fleet of media cameras and about 2000 spectators cheering from the nearby hillside.

As for the "Rockin' portion, the KY Headhunters and Sherrie' Austin treated some 3000 fans that did indeed dare to venture from Edmonton, KY and nearby counties to show their appreciation to their hometown Headhunters. All in all, the weekend rocked and raced with style and success.

Special thanks are in order to Mr. Ray Christy and his brothers and sisters for their endless help in running the event. Another note of appreciation goes out to Maxxis Tires, Scott USA, Baldwin Motorsports, Outerwears, Lone Star, ATV Sport, Trackside Software, Trackside Graphics, Legacy ATV, H-Bomb Films' Wes Miller, ATV 4-Wheel Action's Adam Campbell, ESPN-Moto World's Lee Burrows, Nik's Pro X, Josh Starrett, Brett Harper, Kelly Straka, John Dains, and all the hard working staff members.

Be sure to read the November issue of ATV 4-Wheel Action for a detailed 4-page spread on the event.

MORE ABOUT THE HEADHUNTERS AND SHERRIE' AUSTIN:

The Kentucky HeadHunters originally set out to play local gigs and host a radio show, but in 1989, they recorded their first album and everything changed from there. The album “Pickin' On Nashville”, broke all record sales at that time for a debut album released by a country band. The album soared to gold status almost instantly. Songs such as "Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine" and "Dumas Walker" were two of the most known hits from the album. Twelve years later, the HeadHunters are still going stronger than ever.

With 7 albums and over 4 million copies sold, the HeadHunters have received recognition from the music industry including awards for Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Video! The HeadHunters recently released a new CD entitled “Songs from The Grass-String Ranch.” The first single, “Too Much To Lose,” was released in September 2000. The HeadHunters released a second single, “Jessico,” in February 2001.

The HeadHunters include the Maxxis Country Rockin' & Racin' Festival as part of thier 2001 tour. The arrangement worked out perfect -- The Maxxis Country Rockin' & Racin' event marked the first time they played a major concert in front of their hometown fans!

The beautiful Sherrie' Austin said she would like to ride on an ATV sometime. Any volunteers to give her a ride?

Sherrie' Austin was born and raised in Australia. She moved to California so she could pursue her dream of singing country music. She found success in both singing and acting, but she never quite felt at home there. Increasingly drawn to Nashville, she packed up her suitcase, a guitar and enough money to live on for two months and headed to a town where she knew no one.

She later released her debut album, Words, in 1997 and quickly became recognized for such hits as "Lucky In Love", "One Solitary Tear" and "Put Your Heart Into It." With the help of such hits as "Never Been Kissed" and "Little Bird", her 1999 CD, Love in the Real World brought her an Academy of Country Music Association nomination for Best New Female Artist and a #1 spot on the sales, video and dance charts for the single of "Never Been Kissed"!

Sherrie' Austin opened up the night's festivities at the 2001 Maxxis Country Rockin' & Racin' Festival. Her concert was an official part of her Followin' A Feelin' Tour.
