Triumph Motorsports Stadium Race

ImageThis past weekend was the Triumph Motorsports Stadium Quad Race. Rain and high winds riddled Southern California the night before, but come race day the clouds seemed to part way just for this special race.

“Stadium-Style” racing was designed to keep speeds fast and the jumps low. With turns in some places reaching 50 feet wide passing wasn’t an issue. Tight turns towards the center of the track made it fun for riders to come diving in on other riders for a quick pass. Milestone MX Ranch was the perfect venue for the event and their dirt complemented this style of racing.

“We had an awesome mix of riders from celebrity stadium kart racers to amateur quad racers to R1 powered Side by Sides. I feel we had something for everyone,” said event promotion Ken Johnson. “All in all it went extremely well and the track conditions were epic.”

The quads were combined with Trophy Karts, which was a first of it’s kind. Both seemed to use the same lines and it actually worked out quite well. From start to finish it was a great event that many are still talking about. As for the future, plans are in the works for a four round series.

Race Action…
In the Novice class Gerardo Sevulveda, JR took the holeshot and checked out just like he did in the first moto. Like moto one, the battle was for the 2nd through 8th spots. Jake Arbaugh and Javier Palacios helped to make the battle in the Novice class fun to watch. Edger Martinez, and Rick Perez traded places over and over. These four were definitely hungry for the podium.

The second Pro moto started with Dennis Capogni getting the holeshot like he did in the first. His Dasa-built machine seemed to really move off the line. Daniel Palacios grabbed the second spot, and moto one winner Keith Tebeau had a horrible start. “My clutch was slipping during the first race, and only got worse. I tightened it up and did my best,” said Keith after the race. The rest of the moto saw both Daniels battling for the last podium spot.

The Expert class saw Gerardo Sevulveda Sr. taking the Holeshot and Dave Boles in a strong second. John Hislop rounded the top three. Kaeli, the first moto winner, was no where to be seen. “I was stuck behind Keith Tebeau at the start and I guess he was having problems with has bike, so I couldn’t get off the line as fast as I could,” said Kaeli. It didn’t take Kaeli too long to work her way back up to Gerardo. They battled for a couple laps, but Kaeli came out the leader. Dave Boles, not too far behind the leaders, capitalized with the battle and got around Gerardo right after Kaeli.

Image In the Novice Class Gerardo Sepulveda Jr. made quick work of the novice class. He grabbed the holeshot and ran away with the lead. The battle was for 2-8. The rest of the pack was tight. These guys swapped places the whole moto. It almost looked staged how these guys went back and forth. To say the least the moto was fun to watch.

ImageThe Pros and Expert first moto raced together. Dennis Capogni took the holeshot for the Pro class and took a commanding lead for about two laps. Keith Tebeau worked his way through the pack and took the lead from Dennis. These two stayed tight all moto.

ImageRight behind them was Dustin Terry, Daniel Ramirez, Daniel Palacios. Dustin was a little off pace but it’s hard to do well with a broken rear brake line, which also took him out of moto two.

ImageKaeli Flaczinski led the Expert class from start to finish. Kaeli was on her game. She seemed to be flawless all moto, and even started catching the tail end of the Pro class!

Super fun race. Triumph motorsports knows how to put on a race. I placed third in the novice class and i could say this race was one of the funnest races I’ve competed in.

It would be awesome if there was a race series of this kind.
