Yamaha YFZ450Rs made an impressive sweep of the XC1 Pro, XC2 Pro Am and WXC classes at the fourth round of the 2015 GNCC season in Union, South Carolina on Saturday, April 11. N-Fab/AmPro/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler took his second win of the year in the premier XC1 Pro class and AmPro’s Cole Richardson grabbed his fourth consecutive win of the year in XC2 Pro Am over Cody Collier on another YFZ450R. He now leads the XC2 title chase by 19 points – an impressive advantage so early in the season. As well, Kylie Ahart added to Yamaha’s win streak in the morning Women’s race, leading every lap to take her first victory of the year, with Tori Fryer putting another YFZ on the podium in third.

At the start of the four-lap, two-hour long XC1 Pro race, Fowler kept rival and series points leader Adam McGill squarely in his sights. After making a good start, the Yamaha rider trailed McGill until the halfway point, then turned the tables and took over the lead for the last two laps. The contest was a battle for the entire marathon distance, with the two riders rarely more than a few seconds

apart at any point. But the end result is exactly what Fowler wanted, as he started the event seven seconds behind and then rallied to win by a narrow 3.5second victory. Fowler’s second win of the year moves him to within 19 points of McGill in the standings.

Winning an amazing fourth straight XC2 Pro Am race looked anything but assured for Richardson at the halfway point as the Yamaha rider encountered difficulties that dropped him from a comfortable early lead to well down the order. But with an hour of racing still to go, Richardson gathered himself up, turned up the speed and made up well over a minute on the field to take the lead on the third of four laps. From there on, he packed on another minute’s advantage to claim the win over Collier, while Blake Tornes’ fifth-place finish on another YFZ made three Yamahas inside the top five.
