The 2012 Blingstar AMA MAXC ATV Racing Series made its fifth stop of the ten round series in Martinsville, IN for the Copperhead Row ATV Race. Young and upcoming Open A Class racer Brycen Neal charged hard to win the ATV overall despite starting in the second row behind the AA class. Ryan Lane would take his third consecutive win of the season in the AA Class and was joined on the podium with Jay Humphrey and MikePflum.

After almost a month of 90 degree temperatures, state wide burn bans, and a water
drought, Mother Nature finally blessed Indiana with almost perfect weather for the fifth round of the MAXC racing series. A low morning fog and condensation kept dust to a minimum for the morning classes, however with rising temperatures the track began to dry out for the final race of the day; which was the Adult ATV class. The virgin 7.5 mile course consisted of several open field sections, dry creek bed crossings, fire roads, and many hill climbs.

Ray Humphrey took an early lead by grabbing the AA holeshot followed by #12 Mike Pflum, Ryan Lane and Kevin Cunningham, and Jay Humphrey. Ryan Lane worked his way up through the dust to take the lead after getting a mid pack start.

“I worked my way up to first real quick, which I was surprised with all the dust. Then I hit a big old pile of dust in a little to high of gear and then the bike just died. I set there for what seemed like an hour. It was then I played catch up the rest of the day.” Said Ryan Lane after getting his Honda 450R ATV restarted Ryan Lane caught up with Open A Class racer Bryce Neal who took the overall lead. Lane and Neal battled it out for several laps until the finish were they were neck and neck. Brycen Neal was able to hold off Ryan Lane in just enough time to cross the finish line to take the Overall ATV win of the day.

Taking his fourth win of the 2012 Blingstar/ MAXC Race season Spider Graphix’s Brycen Neal lead the Open A Class from start to finish after grabbing the Holeshot and the early lead. Neal currently holds down the number one position in the Open A class points championship.

“Me and Ryan Lane battled back and fourth and I was lucky to get by him and I held him off the best as I could because I knew he was coming” stated Maxxis’ Brycen Neal. Placing second in the AA class, #3 Jay Humphrey had to work his way up through the dust from the back of the back after getting a bad start.

“I got upside down right off the start, after I passed Cunningham and Pflum I fell way
back and I ended up catching Raymond (Humphrey) and I saw Cunningham broke down and then I set it to cruise after that.” Said Penny Penchin’ Racing’s Jay Humphrey

Kevin Cunningham was leading the first two laps until he experienced some mechanical problems, which slowed him down and then eventually took him out of the race. Cunningham currently sits second in the AA Class despite experiencing issues at MAXC round 5.

In the Open A Class, #25 Billy Patton and #251 Andrew Stafford joined #176 Brycen Neal on the podium.

The B 15-24 class was once again one of the largest classes at MAXC round 5. Tyler Blackburn from Michell, IN took the win followed by #430 Kellan Alspaugh in second and #41 Ben Kraft in third.

With gorgeous weather for racing, the 13-15 300cc 4 stroke class had almost 20 riders who entered the race. #553 Corey Silverthorn would take the win for the day. #989 Drew Moore from Attica, IN placed second followed by #1 Tyler Weltich in third.

Yamaha ATV Racer #522 Kalab Hagan from Tompkinsville, KY grabbed the win in
the 90cc production class. #898 Isaiah Silverthorn finished just seconds behind Hagan placing second on his Apex Youth ATV. #102 Ethan McReynolds rounded out the podium in third.
