Collins Webster
- Updated: July 20, 2013
Collins Webster has been very impressive this year with three wins and five podium finishes at the 2011 WORCS. After winning the opening round of the 2011 season Team Can-Am/Motoworks took notice of Webster’s consistancy. Since then he has been seen rubbing elbows with some of Can-Am’s fastest riders.
Collins is one of the fastest Pro-Am racers around, but he’s not all business, he is never seen around the track without a smile. With that we caught up with Las Vegas resident Collins Webster, who currently holds the Pro-Am WORCS points lead….
First, congratulations on your recent win at Glen Helen. You had a huge field of talented young racers to battle and you charged the whole time for a well-deserved win.
Thanks the whole weekend went quite well at Glen Helen, as do all races that you win. I won both days and extended my points lead. I came in prepared and took advantage of the opportunity.
How do you feel about racing WORCS? Would you change anything?
I think WORCS has a solid series with the best all around racers in the world, not to mention it’s a great family environment. The structure and organization in my opinion is what sets it apart from any other series. As far as changing things I think the series changes on its own as it grows. I think they are taking steps in the right direction for the riders.
What is your favorite track to race, and what is your worst?
I liked Washington because it’s a change of scenery but my favorite would have to be Racetown, I’ve had several crashes and a broken tail bone from that place but always come back with a smile. The track is fun and the offroad area gets rough. Since I live in the desert rough races suit my style.
Do you race any MX or TT? What do you like best?
I raced motocross before I switched to the WORCS series and still enjoy racing a few here and there. I would also like to race a few GNCC and GNC races back east before I hang up my helmet.
We noticed that you raced the last round of the FNL Summer ATV MX Series during the summer at Milestone in Riverside CA. Did you like the change of pace? Any plans to attend the new FNL Fall Series?
The racing at the last round was awesome. For me those races are a stress relief from my points chase and a lot of fun. I think those local types of races are great and really bring back the roots of ATV racing. I’m definitely going to be at the opener of the new FNL Fall Series and plan on making the rest of them as well. There are some good sponsors and companies behind the series, and I hope it continues to grow.
You have been seen on all the major brands, a Yamaha YFZ 450, Honda TRX450R, and now a Can-Am DS 450. What made you switch? Are you happy you switched?
I just wanted to be loved by my fellow Nevada native Josh Frederick [laughing]. Seriously, I liked the fact that Can-Am is so involved with the races and racers, the contingency and the success that the team has had over the past few years is why I switched. I am most certainly happy about my decision to make the switch, and I think it has a lot to do with my success this year. After my win at the season opener in Taft, Can-Am, DWT and the Motoworks team has really helped me out a lot throughout this long season.
Who does all the wrenching on your bikes?
For the most part I do the wrenching on my practice bike. As for the race bike, that is done by Josh’s mechanic Gilbert. Gil is a good friend and has never let me down. The motors are done by Pro-Tech and have been strong and solid all year long.
You seem to be racing faster and faster every time we see you. What are you doing different from some of the other Pro-Am racers? Run us through some of your training regiment.
I wouldn’t want to give away all of my top secret training routines but I ride as much as I can, along with putting work in at the gym. I am also a frequent rider at Josh Frederick’s training camp. The training and work ethic of his program is by far the best in the business. I think confidence and mental preparation is important as well. Physical training is obviously huge but everyone is capable of putting in the work. My heart and desire to be successful is what helps me dig deep late in a moto.
What motivates you as a racer to keep coming back harder and harder?
Easy. I want this Championship. I want to progress each and every year. The competition has been getting faster all year which keeps me motivated to work harder than th
ey do.
What exactly is your involvement with Team Can Am / Motoworks? How much do they help you?
I’m not a contracted rider for the team, but they have been there to help me succeed throughout the year.
Do you get to ride with any of the Can-Am Factory supported Pro racers?
I have spent some time at Frederick land and get to ride will Dillon once in a while if I make my way to So Cal.
What are your plans for next year?
I’d like to lock the Pro-Am title up this year, build from that next year and hopefully sign with some good support next year as well.
Who would you like to thank for all your success?
To start off, my parents have been a big part of my success in my race program. Also my sponsors Motoworks, Can-Am, DWT and Anthony Martin with Triumph Motorsports.
