Wienen Wins Texas AMA Pro ATVMX
- Updated: April 21, 2015
Racing to 3-1 moto finishes, Wienen Motorsports/SSI/Maxxis YFZ450R rider Chad Wienen took his second consecutive overall victory of the 2015 AMA Pro ATV season at Underground MX Park in Kemp, Texas on Saturday, April 18. The competition was intense among the top four as Wienen narrowly outpaced rivals John Natalie (2-3 moto finishes), Joel Hetrick (1-5 motos) and TBrown84/Maxxis/ Yamaha’s Thomas Brown (4-2 motos) for the overall win. The results put the three-time and defending Pro ATV champion in command of the 10-round series, with YFZ450R-mounted Brown riding in fourth.
With the stacked field fighting hard for every advantage on the Texas dirt, Wienen and Brown had their hands full in moto one, finishing just behind rivals Hetrick and Natalie in an epic opening battle. With the points leader’s red plate at stake, Wienen particularly felt the heat as the Pro field lined up for moto two. Making a good start is particularly important in ATV racing, and this time Wienen finished the first lap just behind Natalie and Hetrick. Wienen dove past Hetrick on the second of 10 laps, with the pair fighting furiously for the position while closing on early leader Natalie. The Yamaha duo’s tenacity paid off, as Wienen took over the lead on lap five and Brown moved past Natalie into podium position on lap six. The YFZ riders got another break as Hetrick faded in the last two laps, elevating Brown to second. The result was the second 1-2 moto finish for the pair this year.
