Comber Quad rider Justin Reid is the proud holder of two Guinness World Records (subject to final verification) after taking part in Trax, the UK’s Ultimate Performance Car Event, held at the legendary Silverstone Racing Circuit on Sunday the 5th of September.
Riding the same Yamaha Banshee on which he recorded the outright lap records at both Kirkistown and Bishopscourt, on his way to winning the 2009 P&O Winter Supermoto Series Quad Championship, the multi British and Ulster Champion was an instrumental part of the six rider team hand-picked by Tony Nash from the Quad Racing Association UK as part of a promotion for the all-new Nail’d ATV racing game which is being launched next month.
In front of 18 000 spectators, Reid secured his first entry in the Guinness book of World Records by taking the Fastest 0 – 60mph ATV Time with a time of 3.12 seconds, this was also the 2nd fastest time recorded outright by any vehicle at the event and only bettered by a full blown dragster. Justin then made it a double with the Guinness World Record for Fastest ATV Side Wheelie with an incredible speed of 68 mph, blitzing the existing record of 47 mph set by none other than the World famous Motocross, Freestyle Motocross and Extreme Sports Athlete, Travis Pastrana of Nitro-Circus fame.
Commenting after the event, a delighted Reid said, “First, I’d like to thank Tony Nash of the Quad Racing Association UK for making all this happen today. It was awesome to showcase some of our skills and the quad’s abilities in front of such a large audience. When I heard that the record stood at 47mph for the side wheelie I thought that I could go faster but I never really got around to practicing it, as there is nowhere suitable close to home! We did some demo’s here this morning and I used that time to get comfortable up on two wheels but 47 turns out to be pretty fast! I felt that I could do it though so I did a couple of runs to set my speed and it turned out that I had already gone faster on the second run! I knew I could go a bit faster yet so I tried again and set the 68mph speed.
When it came to the 0-60 time I think that we opened a few of the cars guy’s eyes! I’m happy with 3.12secs – my little CT Racing 400cc engine certainly packs some punch despite its size!”
