- Updated: March 5, 2015
BRP has announced its team of ATV and side-by-side vehicle racers for the 2015 season. After the most successful off-road racing season in history, which saw Can-Am racers earn premier class championships with both ATVs and side-by-side vehicles all across North America, BRP remains dedicated to off-road racing, with its Can-Am X-team and Can-Am racing contingency and amateur support programs.
“We had the most successful Can-Am off-road racing season ever in 2014, which was highlighted by championships in SCORE International (Class 19), the GNCC SxS XC1 and SxS XC2 class titles and all four 4×4 classes. We captured numerous championships in several different racing disciplines, from motocross to hare scrambles to endurance events and want to continue this level excellence with our 2015 team,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “The Can-Am team is full of dedicated and highly skilled off-road racers who strive to be the best in their respective series and sport.”
Can-Am will have racers competing in several national racing series and at select regional events in both the United States and Canada. Can-Am racers will be competing in the 2015 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country series in both side-by-side and 4×4 ATV racing classes. Kyle Chaney, winner of three events last year and the 2014 GNCC SxS XC1 Modified UTV class champion, will be joined in the Pro class by six other Can-Am Maverick pilots. Those Can-Am drivers include, Team JB Racing / Houser Racing’s Tim Farr and Larry Hendershot Jr., Marcus and Shannon “Mouse” Pratt of Jack’s Excavating, Zakowski Motor Sports pilot Zac Zakowski and Treavis Poynter of Offroad Motorsports. Racers “Digger” Doug Gust, Mike Penland and Rich Travalena Jr. will also compete for the SxS XC2 Limited title for the Can-Am X-team in 2015.
In the 4×4 ATV ranks, Can-Am X-Team members include reigning Pro 4×4 class title holder and multitime GNCC champion Bryan Buckhannon, as well as veteran Rob Smith, Jordan Phillips, and Tanner Bowles will all compete on Renegade 800R X xc ATVs.
In the desert, brothers Derek and Jason Murray will again compete in a Can-Am Maverick side-by-side in both the Best In The Desert and SCORE International racing series. One of the pioneers of side-by-side racing, Cory Sappington, will also take on the BITD and SCORE events with his Desert Toyz Maverick. Dustin Jones of S3 Powersports, Logan Gastel and Michael Lansky will compete in the BITD series with the Murrays and Sappington. Ken Benson will compete in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series for Can-Am.
The World Off-Road Championship Series Can-Am team will be comprised of four drivers and three teams. Kyle Melville and Gilbert Flores will make up the Del Amo Motorsports / Can-Am team. WORCS veteran Dave Martinez will compete in a Murray Racing / ITP / Can-Am-backed Maverick Turbo X ds. Matt Hancock will also drive for the Can-Am X-Team.
Brothers Hunter and Cody Miller will compete in Maverick Turbo side-by-side vehicles and Cody Taylor on an ATV in the Texas Off-Road Nationals ATV series.

Pro Jeffrey Rastrelli (JB Racing / Can-Am), who won the Pro-Am division title in 2014, will represent Can-Am aboard a DS 450 ATV in the Pro class at the AMA sanctioned 2015 Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championship Series.
BRP will continue its Can-Am Amateur Racer Support program for 2015. Owners with eligible, 2012 or newer, Can-Am ATV or side-by-side vehicles may apply for the program. The amateur support program compliments BRP’s industry-leading Can-Am X-Team ATV and Side-By-Side Racing contingency program.
“BRP realizes the level of commitment required to compete for off-road racing championships. By offering our Can-Am Amateur Racer Support and having devoted nearly a million dollars to the Can-Am X-Team contingency program, we can essentially reward Can-Am racers for their efforts,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “The support program allows performance enthusiasts in North America to compete with certain designated Can-Am vehicles, both ATVs and side-by-side vehicles, at select, authorizes events. The bottom line is, win or lose, our programs exist to support racers who support the Can-Am brand.”
Amateur racing participants must purchase a qualifying new or unused ATV or side-by-side vehicle and register with an authorized Can-Am dealer. The list of ATVs include 2014 and newer DS 450 and 2012 and newer Renegade and select Outlander (see rules) models. For side-by-side vehicles, they can purchase a 2012 or newer Can-Am Maverick or 2012 or newer Commander. Once approved for the program, a $1,000 rebate is applied for ATVs and a $1,500 rebate for side-by-side vehicles. However, eligible vehicle numbers are limited and the program will conclude once BRP reaches that number.
Qualified racers can receive cash payouts in the amount earned based on their qualifying finishes. Payments are mailed directly to the participant or legal guardian. Upon the conclusion of the 2015 season, BRP will also award contingency payouts for overall championships earned.
Contingency cash is paid out in numerous U.S. national and regional racing series. Those series include the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series, World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS), Best In The Desert (BITD), SCORE International, Mud Nationals, Championship Mud Racing, 12 Hours of La Tuque and many more. The Can-Am X-Team Racing Contingency Program will be announced in a separate release.

BRP Offers nearly $1 Million In Can-AM Contingency For 2015 Racing season
BRP will support its Can-Am ATV and Side-By-Side Racing Contingency program for 2015 with nearly US $1 million. Regional and national racers are eligible for a cash payout through the program for the 2015 season by competing with Can-Am ATVs and side-by-side vehicles in the United States and Canada.
“Racing plays an integral role in the makeup of the Can-Am DNA. Our contingency and amateur support programs, creates incentive for Can-Am owners who compete on BRP’s line of Can-Am products,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “We designed these racer-influenced programs as a way to reward consumers for their loyalty to Can-Am and to also assist them in a pursuit of a successful racing season.”
Competitors are eligible for cash payout if they race in an authorized racing series with an approved Can-Am ATV and side-by-side vehicle. A racer can potentially earn a payout if they meet the terms of the contingency program and earn a qualifying finish at an approved event. Payments are mailed to the participants or their legal guardian. Additional contingency can be received if a racer wins a class championship in an authorized series. Championship contingency can vary by class and racing series.
