Gold Speed Racers Dominate at WORCS Season Finale
- Updated: November 1, 2014
Goldspeed Products backed racers recently wrapped up the 2014 WORCS season and did so in domineering style. David Flores took the overall in the competitive Pro-Am class and Pro class racer Dillon Zimmerman made a triumphant return after missing several rounds due to injury with a season best second place finish.
After a frustrating crash that resulted in torn ligaments in his elbow, Goldspeed/JRiShocks racer Dillon Zimmerman was sidelined for what appeared to be the remainder of the 2014 season. After almost three months of rest, Zimmerman was given the green light from doctors to compete at the series finale in Primm Nevada.
The time off proved beneficial for Zimmerman as he was able to secure his best finish of the season. Coming off the line in 5th, Zimmerman managed to pick up one position before leaving the offroad truck portion of the track despite heavy pressure from Josh Row. Holding his position, Zimmerman would eventually pass Robbie Mitchel to take over third place as the pair entered one of the many whoop sections on the brutal Primm course.
As the laps waned, Zimmerman would eventually overtake Beau Baron who appeared to be having issues in a rock section and would hold second place all the way to the finish. “The weekend was great,” commented Zimmerman. “I didn’t touch my shock adjustments at all the whole weekend and my bike was dialed for the sandy conditions. I was able to relax and concentrate on going fast.”
In the Pro-Am class, David Flores has found the podium multiple times this season however two DNF’s had stifled his championship hopes for 2014. Despite some bad luck during the season, a third place finish in Saturday’s Production A race would earn him the championship and afford him one last opportunity to make a bid for the Pro-Am title on Sunday.
After a third place start, Flores would work into second and chase down the leader, fellow Goldspeed racer Mike Sloan. The duo would battle hard with Flores ultimately overtaking him and riding uncontested all the way to the finish.
Sloan would lose two more positions before the checkered flag but fourth place provided enough points for him to secure the overall championship and first place for Flores would land him in 3rd place overall on the season. The two racers dominated for much of the season, combining for wins at 7 of the 9 rounds of the 2014 WORCS season.
With another year in the books, racers have a few months to regroup and get ready for the 2015 season opener in Taft California on January 16th-18th.
