Goldspeed Racers earn two Pro Class Podiums at AMA Round 5
- Updated: June 20, 2014
The Wienen Motorsports duo of Chad Wienen and Thomas brown continued their dominance this past weekend at Briar Cliff MX with a first and third place finish at round five of the AMA ATV Motocross series. This makes seven total pro class podiums for the Goldspeed backed Yamaha racers and another first place finish by Chad Wienen stretches out his lead in the overall points chase as the season passes the halfway point.
A new stop for the series, Briar Cliff MX brought an innovative layout and intense racing action for both fans and racers alike. Moto 1 saw both Wienen and Brown take a mid pack position after the start of the race but both racers were able to quickly move through the field, within a few laps. Wienen managed to pass for the lead on lap four and check out on the field while Brown fought an intense battle with another competitor and was able to make a move into the third place position before the checkered flag waived.
Moto 2 saw Wienen with a much better start although he wouldn’t take over the lead until lap number four. The battle behind Wienen was one of the tightest, most intense of the season and after a mid pack start, Brown found himself in a heated battle for most of the second moto. Working his way into the fourth place position by the halfway point, Brown managed to pass for third but was unable to make it stick and lost a position before the end of the Moto.
Brown’s 3-4 finish amounted to a three way tie for second which would have him landing in the third spot on the podium for the weekend.
“We’re incredibly happy to be partnered with Wienen Motorsports as they contend for their third AMA ATV MX Pro championship,” said Ty Zimmerman, President of Goldspeed Products USA and GPS Offroad. “We believe we have a superior product and the fact that Chad and Thomas can compete and win with our wheels demonstrates the overall durability and performance of the product. We like to say, we didn’t reinvent the wheel, we only made it better.”
As the series passes the halfway point, Wienen maintains a comfortable 41 point lead over second place with only four rounds remaining. From Ohio, the series moves to the sandy soils of Spring Creek MX Park in Millville Minnesota for round 6.
