Insane ATVs from PRP Racing
- Updated: February 3, 2009
Everyone knows that hybrid ATVs used to rule the roost at tracks all over the country. Although the hybrid concept is still a competitive set up, people want the production based quads now days.
Up State New York’s PRP Racing, which is owned and operated by ATV Scene’s Old School columnist Dave Porter, has built hundreds of hybrids over a span of eleven years. Like several aftermarket ATV companies back in the day, PRP built many riders complete state-of-the-art race quads completely out of high performance aftermarket parts.
With the advent of production ATVs many of the hybrid manufacturing companies have had to reinvent themselves. Many have branched into other forms of motor sports others have concentrated their efforts into making production quads better. PRP Racing has done all the above and more. Recently PRP went in a different direction with the creation of some of the quickest quads we’ve ever seen.
With the ATV knowledge of PRP combined with the snowmobile background at BNP, which is conveniently located a few miles from PRP, the unthinkable was born. Introducing four of the sickest quads we’ve ever seen…
D&D Power Sports Arctic Cat 1000
This is the first of many outrageous creations that came from the minds of a few guys that just love to go fast. It was built for one of the most popular Arctic Cat snowmobile dealerships and performance shops in the north east, D&D Power Sports in Lowville, NY.
The motor is a 180 horsepower 1,000cc Arctic Cat snowmobile motor. It was built for 300 foot long dirt drags. Its average speed is 88 mph. Distance time is 3.8 seconds.
Can-Am DS 440
This beauty is one of the more unique drag racing quads. It was built for a customer that really loved the old Can-Am DS 650. So BNP and PRP came up with a 440cc rocketship. This quad has a 115 horse Ski-Doo motor. It was built mostly for asphalt. Its best speed has been recorded at 101 mph, and did 6.6 seconds in the 1/8 mile. Its wheelbase is a whopping 74 inches long and 48 inches wide in the front, while the rear maxes out at 36 inches to grab as much traction as possible.
Arctic Cat 1100
This quad is without a doubt the cleanest looking of the batch. It was sold to a customer that wanted to use an Arctic Cat snowmobile motor and still look like an Arctic Cat. So BNP and PRP used the older Arctic Cat 400 plastic. The motor is an outrageously big at 1,132cc and makes an insane 210 horses. It’s an all out pavement and dirt digger that only the extremely brave should attempt to ride. Wheelbase is 76 inches long 46 inches wide up front and uses an adjustable rear maxing out at 38 inches. It has recorded times of 6.0 seconds flat in the 1/8 mile at 116 mph. It has done 9.9 seconds in the quarter at an eye-watering 130 mph!
Arctic Cat 1100 Five Wheeler
BNP’s certainly has been able to make a ton of horsepower, but their biggest problem has been getting all that power to the ground. So with an innovative way of looking at things, this totally and completely outrageous drag quad was born. It has an enormous 1,132cc 230 hp Arctic Cat engine. Wheelbase is a massive 84 inches long. The front is 40 inches wide and the rear maxes out at 38 inches. As of this date this beast has yet to be unleashed so there are no times to report yet. In the series that BNP races rules state that it must be an ATV based chassis, but there is nothing that states how many rear tires it can have. So in an effort to get more power to the ground, PRP and BNP created this unique five wheeler.
Did you know PRP is one of the largest manufacturers of bearing carriers?
As you can see Dave Porter and his PRP Racing crew have been pretty busy building some of the sickest quads we’ve ever seen, but have no fear PRP isn’t venturing away from their roots one bit.
If racing a quad at triple digit speeds isn’t your thing PRP still builds all the performance products you’ll need to win races such as sub-frames, A-arms, swing-arms, anti-fade nuts, fender brackets, axle locking nuts, steering stems, top clamps, brake plates, chain rollers, — you name it they make it.
