Mtn. Dew Returns as Title Sponsor for 2015 ATV Motocross National Championship
- Updated: November 10, 2014
This past weekend on the waterfront in Morgantown, MX Sports Pro Racing and the ATV Promoters Group (ATVPG) celebrated the champions, successes and highlights of this year’s ATV Motocross National Championship, sanctioned by AMA (ATVMX), with the annual ATVMX Awards Banquet. While reigning three-time AMA Pro ATV Champion Chad Wienen was honored for his efforts, arguably the biggest news of the night came with the announcement that Mtn. Dew® would return for its third season of title sponsorship, along with the unveiling of the 2015 season schedule.
The 30th Anniversary of the Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championship will feature 10 rounds of competition in 2015, visiting many of the most legendary facilities in all of motocross, in addition to a trio of new tracks. Since joining ATVMX during the 2013 season, Mtn. Dew’s ability to be represented by some of the most talented and fearless athletes on the planet made it an easy choice to continue its support of the championship. Serving as one of the world’s most recognizable brands, Mtn. Dew and its partnership with ATVMX has been attributed to enthusiast and current team owner Rich Gillette, who has been an ambassador for Mtn. Dew and the series by supporting every aspect of the most prestigious ATV motocross series on the planet. Gillette’s roots with Mtn. Dew run deep thanks to his grandfather, an independent bottler who began distributing the product in the late 1960’s and ultimately generated so much demand for the beverage that the success provided an opportunity to give back to the same community that helped him reach such notoriety. He remains highly regarded for his efforts with Mtn. Dew and subsequent community outreach to this day by the PepsiCo organization.
“My family’s deep and incredibly strong ties to Mtn. Dew and PepsiCo as a whole has allowed me the tremendous honor of bringing global recognition to the ATV Motocross National Championship while also supporting the series through my own endeavors with Root River Racing, ” said Gillette. “I have been a diehard ATVMX fan for the last 10 years I’m proud to say I’ve played an integral part in the development of many of its competitors for the last eight years. This sport continues to be one of the best-kept secrets in the country and I know the continued partnership with Mtn. Dew will help bring these competitors the attention they deserve.”
The 2015 season will kick off on the weekend of March 21-22 with the championship’s first visit to Echeconnee MX Park, located in Lizella, Georgia, which sits just 15 minutes outside of Macon and just over an hour drive away from Atlanta. ATVMX has longstanding roots in the state and Echeconnee has made a name for itself by being considered one of the best sand tracks in the country. The unique challenge of sand will serve as a fitting way to kick off the ATVMX season, providing riders with one of their toughest challenges from the moment the first gate drops.
From there, the series travels to Texas for its first visit to Underground MX Park, located in Kemp. This track sits just an hour outside of Dallas and features some of the best dirt in the state with big time obstacles. It serves as an ideal option to bring ATVMX to the Lone Star State.
The heart of the 2015 ATVMX season consists of returns to staple stops like Muddy Creek Raceway, High Point Raceway, Sunset Ridge MX, Spring Creek MX Park, Unadilla, RedBud and the season finale from Loretta Lynn Ranch on August 8-9. However, another new stop will host the pivotal halfway point of the championship.
One year following the debut of its state-of-the-art facility, Ironman Raceway will host the world’s best four-wheel competitors for the fifth stop of the season and welcome the roar of ATVs to arguably the most motorsports-driven region of the country. Less than an hour from Indianapolis and the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the inaugural visit to Ironman will no doubt be a special one for the sport.
“After an exceptional 2014 season we are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2015 campaign and the three new tracks that will welcome this incredible championship,” said Roy Janson, Managing Director at MX Sports Pro Racing. “The return of Mtn. Dew combined with added diversity to the schedule should make for another thrilling season of competition as the field looks to end Chad Wienen’s reign atop the AMA Pro ATV division. With 2015 serving as the 30th anniversary, this will no doubt be a championship every rider wants on his mantle.”
After hosting its inaugural round of the ATV Motocross National Championship last season, Nashport, Ohio’s Briarcliff MX is not included in the 2015 schedule but will still maintain a presence in the series with track owner Jeremy Osborn. As an integral part of the ATVPG, Osborn will be involved in various aspects of the upcoming season while also prepping for Briarcliff’s potential return to the championship in the future.
“The 2014 ATV Motocross National Championship season was an overwhelming experience,” said Osborn. “It was literally a dream come true for the Briarcliff team to be a part of the series. We look forward to working with the ATVPG as we continue to grow our facility in hopes that we will be back on the schedule in the future.”
