Suzuki Strikes Back
- Updated: September 13, 2003
It was only days ago that Honda announced the biggest news to hit ATV racing in seventeen years with their newest factory rider – Tim Farr. Now Suzuki strikes back with instrumental news of their own.
On Friday afternoon, Sept 12 at their dealer meeting, Suzuki announced that they will aggressively jump into ATV racing in 2004. They also announced that Doug Gust will be their first factory supported rider in 2004. Yoshimura was also named as Gust’s engine builder and will play a major role in Gust’s program.
Ironically, in similar form to Farr’s grand achievement , Doug’s career goal also happened in the mega-money town of Las Vegas. In a conversation shortly after the announcement, Gust said that the whole thing was like a dream and he was choked up with happiness. He added that this is no halfhearted effort — Suzuki is going full out and Gust is their main man. He also said that they are even mentioning television commercials featuring Gust.
Final details are still being determined. Look to ATV Scene in the next few days for an exclusive conversation with “Digger” Doug Gust.
