History was made this past week in the ATV racing community as Vechery Racing competed in the inaugural Fly Racing Daytona ATV Supercross. This historic race would also mark the debut of Ronnie Higgerson on his Vechery/Elka/Maxxis/Six5Design Honda and the return of team veteran Tim Dettling.

Higgerson and Dettling would find themselves both in the second Pro Heat of the morning as each heat would qualify six riders to the main and send the rest to a last chance qualifier. At the end of the heat Higgerson would find himself comfortably in the main event with a fourth place finish. Unfortunately for Dettling contact with another rider off the face of a jump would leave Tim watching from the sidelines for the remainder of the day.

With 16 of the world’s fastest ATV racers lined up for the gate drop, Ronnie Higgerson would rocket off the line with his DASA Powered/TDR Built Honda and tuck in behind John Natalie and Jeffrey Rastrelli as the riders rounded the first turn. Higgerson would settle into 5th place for a number of laps until a small mistake would leave Ronnie crossing the finish line in 15th.

Vechery Racing/Never Sleep Designs Satellite support riders Alex Pafford and Bryce Barber had an eventful weekend as Alex would go on to finish seventh in Schoolboy Senior and Bryce would qualify fourth out of Production B, but a DNF in 450B would keep him from racing his main in Production B on Tuesday.

“It was an honor to be part of such a great event here in Daytona. From the pit setups, to the facility and staff it was all around a great event. We were very excited to see Ronnie up front for part of the race and we are really excited to see how the next round goes. Unfortunately for Tim it looks like his get off in the heat is going to require some recovery time,” said team owner Gloria Vechery.

higgerson_findayn15Due to Dettling’s injury Vechery Racing will utilize another rider in the Pro Class for the rest of the year. “When Tim is able to return to the track from his injury his main focus will be on Pro-Am. With another ATV open for the Pro class we have come to an agreement with #75 Casey Martin to race alongside Ronnie in Pro. Casey showed up with minimal seat time this past winter and won the Pro-Am class here at Daytona. Casey will make a great addition to the team and we are really excited to work with him for the rest of the year,” said Vechery.

Vechery Racing heads to Rd 1 of the Mountain Dew ATV MX National Championship at Echeconnee Mx located in Lizella, Georgia on March 21 and 22. Be sure to follow Vechery Racing on Twitter and Instagram as well as Facebook for all of the team updates and results.
