The Mtn. Dew AMA ATV MX Pro National Championships headed to Briar Cliff MX in Nashport Ohio this past weekend for Round 5 of their 9-round series and the Wienen Motorsports SSi Yamaha Maxxis Walsh Team took to the podium. Chad Wienen grabbed the ATVRiders.com Fastest Qualifier award in the morning and went 1-1 to take the overall for the weekend and Thomas Brown went 3-4 for third overall. “It felt great to be at the top spot on the podium and to extend my points lead on the championship. My bike was dialed in and working great on the Ohio soil and I hope to carry the momentum to Round 6 at Millville in two weeks.” said Wienen.
In Moto 1 the Wienen Motorsports duo found themselves mid pack but were able to make their way up towards the front of the field quickly Brown checking in at the end of the first lap in third and Wienen close behind in fourth. In the next lap, Wienen made a pass on Brown and began to make his charge on the front of the field and took over the lead position by the end of the fourth lap and was the first to cross the checkers. Meanwhile, Brown looked to advance his position and halfway through was finally able to make a pass into the third place position where he stayed until the end of moto 1.
As the gate dropped for moto 2, Wienen got off to a much better start coming out of the first turn in second. Wienen and the rider out front were putting in some fast laps and in lap four Wienen saw his opportunity for a pass and made it stick. Wienen went on to take his second checkers of the day. Brown got another mid pack start and was able to work his way into fifth by the end of lap one. Battling for positions, Brown took over the fourth place position halfway through the moto and then moved into third a lap later but was unable to hold onto third and fell back into fourth before the end of moto 2.
” I was really hoping to find that top spot on the podium again here at Briar Cliff but I was happy with my third place finish and getting up on the podium. I am looking forward to working even harder in these next two weeks to better my results at Spring Creek MX.” said Brown.
Wienen Motorsports Pro-Am rider Nick Gennusa took sixth overall in the Pro-Am class after going 7-8 for the weekend. Gennusa has yet to find his rhythm in to find the front of the field in his class but is determined to be at the front of the field battling for the top spot as we progress in the season.
