TQRA Round 11 and 12 2010

By Austin Wilson

ImageRound 11 of the TQRA series was held at Ascot Park Mx in Dora, AR. Can-am dominated this weekend with riders Hunter and Cody Miller taking 1st and 2nd in Expert and sweeping the podium in the Pro AM class with the Miller brothers finishing 1st and 2nd with fellow Can-am rider Johnny Hale following in 3rd.

Hunter started the first Expert moto in 5th place with younger brother Cody grabbing the holeshot. As Cody began to check out on the rest of the class, as Hunter began to work his way past riders an opportunity presented its self. “I was riding very conservatively to avoid any trouble that might lead to a mistake resulting in a loss of points toward my overall championship,” said Hunter. By the end of the moto Hunter made his way into the second spot with Cody taking the win.

In the second expert moto Hunter shot to the front with the holeshot with the Can-am of brother Cody right on his rear bumper through the first turn. The two brothers pulled away from the pack as the battled for position around the track. “Lap after lap Cody applied pressure but I was able to ride smooth and consistent to take the moto and overall for the Expert class this weekend,” said Hunter.

Hunter started Pro Am moto one in eighth place with Cody and fellow Can-am rider Johnny Hale leading the pack. Hunter started picking riders off one by one and by the fifth lap had worked his way up to Johnny Hale who was sitting in second. The two had an intense battle for the remaining laps. Hunter finished 3rd for the moto following Hale in 2nd and Cody Miller in 1st.

The second Pro Am moto was the most exiting race of the weekend! Cody pulled the holeshot with Hunter following in second and Hale in 3rd. Cody and I immediately began to pull away from the rest of the pack. The two riders where battling side by side around the entire track. The brothers where riding very clean and aggressive showcasing the incredible performance of their Can-am DS 450 machines. On lap 5 Cody made a small mistake in a corner and Hunter was able to stick his machine on the inside and make the pass. Cody did not give up the spot easily as he immediately put pressure on Hunter. All of the spectator’s where going crazy as the two raced around the track. Hunter was able to hold off Cody and take the moto win. Can-am swept the podium with Cody Miller taking first, Hunter Miller taking second and Johnny Hale placing third.

The final round 12 of the TQRA race season was held at Valley Moto MX in Tuskahoma, OK. This was the second time this season TQRA has raced at this facility and the track owner always does a great job prepped the track for racing. Hunter has the points lead in both Expert and the Pro Am classes. “My mindset was a little different coming into this event. My main focus for the weekend was to ride conservative and wrap up the overall championship in both classes, “ said Miller.

Hunter started the first Expert class moto in fourth place behind Thomas Brown, Cody Miller, and Eli Church. Hunter followed Eli for two laps before he found a place to make a pass. Unfortunately, a line change by Eli caused the two riders to collide and tangle their machines shortly dropping them both back a few positions. At the checkered flag Hunter worked his way back to the 6th position.
The second expert moto was one of the final motos of the day. The track was very rough, dry and slick. “These are the conditions where my Can-am DS 450 has really shined all season long,” said Hunter. Miller rounded the first turn in third behind Thomas Brown and Chase Snapp. Chase and Hunter battled back and forth for several laps before he fell victim to a broken spindle. From there Miller was able to ride smooth to a unchallenged second place finish and securing the overall points championship in the Expert class on his Can-am DS 450!!

Hunter started the first Pro Am moto in third place behind Thomas Brown and Chase Snapp. Unfortunately, a quick first turn tangle with another rider dropped Miller back to sixth. After a few laps Hunter was able to make up a few seconds on the fifth place rider and make the pass. This is as far as Miller would make it toward the front in this moto giving him a fifth place finish and moving him one step closer to securing another championship for his Can-am team!

“The track for the final Pro Am moto had become very dry slick and several of the corners had large pot holes that my PEP equipped DS 450 tackled with no problems,” said Hunter. Chase Snapp pulled the holeshot, followed by Thomas Brown, Cody Miller, and Hunter Miller. This is where the riders would stay all eight laps and finish the moto. With Millers overall fourth place finish, I secured the Pro Am series championship.

“I could not be happier with the way my TQRA race season has gone in the Expert and Pro-am class. My Can-am DS 450 performed flawlessly all season paired with my PEP shocks, Goldspeed Tires, DWT wheels, and Rath Racing components. I was able to showcase how great of a machine my DS 450 is all season and other races took notice as more and more DS 450 started showing up at the starting gate. Our race program is so great and I could not do it with out all the support from my sponsors. I would like to thank them for the great season and I look forward to bringing home more championships for our team,” said Hunter.
