Jason Lubugh leads Jones and Wimmer in route to his first-ever pro moto victory.

After a perfect outing at Budds Creek, Yoshimura/Suzuki’s Jeremiah Jones nearly repeated the act again this past weekend at the Birch Creek GNC in Virginia.

This year’s track was much shorter than last, combining this with plenty of high speed sections made for close bar banging action lap after lap.

Jones started off moto one in mid-pack fashion only to pass his way to the rear bumper of Ohio’s Jason Luburgh (LSR/TC Racing). Jones finally surrendered to the two-spot after several attempts to bump and nudge his way past. In the end Luburgh took the moto win, his first pro moto victory. East Coast ATV’s Dustin Wimmer matched the leader’s speed and finished up with a well deserved third. “This was the toughest moto of the season. I made some mistakes and they cost me the win,” Jones commented on moto one’s race.

Jones repeated his mediocre mid pack start in moto two, while “Ironman” John Natalie pulled the holeshot and started to distance himself from the field. Halfway into the race Jones took over the lead and never looked back. Natalie’s quad smoked but he still managed to finish in the two spot. “Digger” Doug Gust advanced into third. his 5-3 finishes were good enough for runner up for the day. “I’ll tell ya I’m getting too old to work from behind like this, I need to get better starts, but it’s good to stack some more points up – it’s a long season – I’m still in this thing.

Joe Haavisto finished in fourth, while Dustin Wimmer put in another good moto to finish top five and third overall on the day. “I have to admit, I’m not in shape yet like I need to be, but it’s coming around – I’ve moved up every race”, said Wimmer.

Controversy
Although several riders doubled and tripled the jump near the starting line while a yellow flag was present, a few were picked out and docked positions. The ATVA’s ruling on the matter resulted in a much different top five overall when the penalties were calculated. Currently the ATVA has the following; 1. Jones 2. Byrd 3. Gust 4. Wimmer 5. Natalie.

Protests
At this time there are still multiple protests waiting to be resolved. We’re told that The ATVA officials should have it all worked out by the end of the week. We’ll keep you posted as soon as official word arrives.
