The ITP Quadcross crowned a new race winner this weekend at LACR( Los angeles County Raceway ). Yamaha’s Test Rider Dustin Nelson, rode smooth and consistent all afternoon to claim his first Quadcross victory. Nelson is one of three people to have won a pro quadcross race this year.
Moto 1
Muddy, dusty, windy… well hey, at least there was no rain. It was really hard for anyone to recognize their favorite pro rider due to it being so muddy in some places of the track, while in other places it was extremely dry and dusty. Bottom line, it was hard to see what was going on out there. Anyway enough of the conditions lets go racing.
Kory Ellis(Alba Action/atvscene.com/PEP) and Danny Ragan(Roll Design) had great starts and pulled a couple bike lengths away from the whole pack by the first turn, but it was Kory Ellis who got the holeshot. It was only a few short turns later that he broke his axle in half, forcing him to three-wheel it back to the pit in last place for the moto. It also didn’t take long for Dustin Nelson (Two brothers/Motoworld.com/Yamaha) to take over the lead after a few short turns and Ellis’s equipment malfunction. After a mid pack start Jeremy Schell (Duncan Racing/Kawasaki/ITP) managed to squeeze by enough people to lock in a second place finish before the end of the first lap. By that time Nelson had built a sizable lead, and with Schell’s underpowered KFX400, it would have been an incredible feat to catch up to Nelson and his raging YFZ450. At the end it would be Nelson, Schell, Darrell Patton, Cody Smith and WORC’s series racer Josh Fredricks rounding out the top five.
Moto 2
The second moto had a bit more of an expected outcome as Ellis got his axle fixed and finished first for a 10th spot overall. The second moto also had better track conditions.
It looked as if David Lindsay (Wiseco) was going to run away with the holeshot as he pitched his bike way out to slide through the first turn with Sage Baker (Big Gun/ITP) behind him. Somehow Kory Ellis snuck through the inside to steal the holeshot though. It didn’t take long for Nelson to start picking riders off after a mid pack start. Nelson was now in third with Lindsay riding a really strong race. It looked as if it was going to be a battle with Nelson and Lindsay until they got to the back of track. Lindsay decided not to do the triple and left room on the right side for Nelson to send it. Nelson had a full head of steam allowing him to pass Lindsay. Sage Baker was not far back commanding his 4th spot until he too suffered the same consequences of Kory Ellis in the first moto, breaking his axle.
Jeremy Schell was working hard battling rider after rider as he had to work his way up from his mid-pack start. Jeremy is usually around the most action of the race. He is always battling or passing people unless he is in the lead.
The overall victory went to first time winner Dustin Nelson. Congratulations to him for a well rode race and his first victory.
