Round three was hosted at Glen Helen on their “REM/Vintage” track. The vintage track has very few jumps, many steep climbs and drop offs, not too mention a plethora of off camber turns. It’s definitely a different style track that most racers are used to. The lack of jumps is a bit of a drawback but it races on this track always seem to be great nonetheless.
Heat 1
The first heat had Tony Munio speeding out front in the lead and took a massive lead on the rest of the pack. Unfortunately, Munio made a wrong turn and was later DQ’d for his maneuver. Doug Eichner, Dana Creech and Mike Machado caught up to Munio on the second lap and one by one passed Munio. Eichner fought hard to achieve a gap between himself and Creech, but Creech wasn’t letting him. Creech was hard on the throttle and was looking for every opportunity to pass. Every turn Creech would try different lines just waiting for enough room to pass.

Dustin Nelson was back in the pack after a bad start. Nelson started picking riders off working his way towards the front. The battle Creech was fighting with Eichner was giving the up and comer Nelson time to pass and catch up. In the end Eichner took the win with Creech on his tail and Machado several bike lengths behind.

Heat 2
The second heat was packed with some good ole West Coast talent. Two time Quadcross champ Jeremy Schell was amongst last year’s runner up, Darrell Patton and TT racer Robert McClure. When the gate dropped it was Schell taking the commanding spot out front.
Schell came over the finish line jump on the first turn by himself. He had built a decent size lead and looked to make it an easy ride. McClure was riding hard in second place holding it with some room to spare. Darrell Patton however, whom was in third was getting all kinds of pressure from desert racer Josh Fredricks and newly turned pro, Cyle Chislock. Cyle Chislock is an up and comer in the west coast and is starting to turn some heads with out a doubt.
On lap four Josh Fredricks carried out a successful pass on Darrell Patton for third place, leaving Chislock to continue the battle with Patton. At the end of the heat it was Schell winning with McClure, Fredricks, Patton and Chislock rounding out the top five.

Main
Jeremy Schell wasted no time getting the party started as he blasted his way out front in the first turn. Schell had no time to waste because Creech, McClure and Eichner were all within striking distance. Dana Creech was keeping the heat on Schell throughout the race just a few quad lengths back. Creech would eventually start to fade as he stated after the race “I just wore myself out trying to find places to pass.”
All of the sudden the blue #94 of Dustin Nelson started to appear in the front pack. He was moving throughout the pack with ease as he passed Eichner for the number four spot on lap number two. His next victim was Robert McClure and then was soon in the hunt for Dana Creech in second. Nelson took some time to get by Creech but once by he turned on the heat with only one lap left to catch Schell. The last few turns were intense. Nelson was engaging in every possible line to get Schell on the last few turns. As they approached the second to last turn, Nelson made his move and passed Schell. Schell then shut the door on Nelson around the last turn and got a small lead coming out of the turn. It was now going to be a race to the finish line. Jeremy Schell barely edged by Nelson for the win. Nelson placed second with Creech, McClure and Eichner completing the top five.
