This round belongs to first time ITP Quadcross winner Cody Smith(Moose, Houser). He was found battling throughout the day with Darrell Patton(Quadtech, Burr, Troy Lee) in the first moto and Danny Ragan(Temecula, IMS) in the second. His consistency and hard charging actions awarded him the win. Congrats Cody!!!!
Heavy action was expected between the top two points leader. Currently Jeremy Schell(Alba, ITP, Elka) is leading Darrell Patton by only 1 point going into today’s race. This race and the next two rounds are going to be vital for our future ITP Quadcross champ.
On another note, surprisingly a guest racer decided to show up and race in between the drive from his girl friends surgery and home. GNC pro number 52 of Dana Creech(Kenda, DVS, RPM), pulled in for a visit to the quadcross. He rolled out his YFZ450 and said he was going to race. He looked incredibly fast for only jumping back on the bike two weeks ago. It doesn’t’t look like he forgot how to ride.
Moto 1
Three bikes manned by Jeremy Schell, John Schafe(DFR, Speed Wobble) and Dana Creech approached the first turn side by side. Jeremy Schell edged past the other two, to win the victory for the holeshot. Schell and Creech quickly separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Creech was hot on Schell’s tail when Schell blew the tire off the bead. This gave Darrell Patton a huge advantage over Schell for the championship. Schell would have to pull in the pits for two laps and have an extra tire and rim put on.
After Schell’s misfortune the action shifted to Patton and Cody Smith. The both were charging heavily for the second and third position. With every turn Patton could smell Smith hot on his rear every turn. Eventually Patton held Smith off for a second place finish.
The first heat results ended with Creech taking first and Patton, Smith, Sage Baker(ITP, K&K, DFR), Jeff Spooner(Spooners, DFR, O’neal) rounded out the top five.
Heat 2
Unfortunately Creech went home after the first moto. He had a long day dealing with his girlfriends surgery and he wasn’t’t feeling up too par.
For the last time of the day the gate dropped and Schell blasted past everyone to take his second holeshot of the day. Schell had Ragan, Smith and Ricky Nickell(DFR, Lonestar, Laker Custom) bringing up the rear. It didn’t’t take long Schell to separate himself from the pack and take an easy 2nd moto win, but there was still plenty of action going on behind him.
Ragan and Smith was putting on an excellent fight as they fought for the number two spot. Ragan was holding his line and making it tough for the hard charging Cody Smith to take over second. Eventually Smith would get the better end of the stick and was able to make the pass for second place. Ragan stayed close though for his opportunity to make the pass again.
Darrell Patton was having a tough time making up ground. He had a bad start which made it tough to chase down the leaders for the overall win. Unfortunately Patton broke a spindle and it sent him tumbling. He was taken to the hospital and has a broken collar bone. This accident sets back the amazing race for the championship between Patton and Schell. Hopefully Patton can make it back soon and keep up the battle between the two. At the end of the day it was Schell, Smith, Ragan, Baker and Spooner wrapping up the 2nd moto.
Smith was solid and got the job done by finishing with a 3-2. Stay tuned for the next round as the points race gets tighter and more exciting. Next round is at Glen Helen on October 24th, the day after the Dirt Riot.
