Cycra Shop Roll Stand

ImageA while back we tested Cycra’s Mechanic Roll cart and were quite happy with how it eased wear and tear on our backs and knees when maintaining our ATVs. Since then it has become an intricate part of our shop. Recently another box arrived at our door from Cycra, this one containing their newest Shop Roll Stand.

What is it?
Cycra’s Shop Roll Stand is very similar in design to their Mechanic Roll Cart and is designed as a work stand for your ATV. Rated at a maximum capacity of 450lbs, the Roll Stand will hold any sport ATV, but falls a bit short of the capacity necessary for utility models. The unit features a fifth caster in the center of the bottom for extra capacity and is a bit beefier than the Mechanic Roll Cart for its heavier duty application.

One feature we noticed was the hole in the center of the top of the cart. This hole seems to be intended for easing oil changing by allowing you to access your oil drain plug while the machine is on the stand. There is enough room on the lower tray to place a small pan or bucket for collecting draining oil.

Using Cycra’s Shop Roll Stand

ImageIt takes a few tries to learn to center your machine on the cart when you put it on, but in time you’ll get it down.To put our Roll Stand to the test, we gave it to Chris Earlywine to use while he was building our Project Pro Am YFZ. The first thing we noticed was that it is tricky to get the machine onto the stand. You either have to have two people lift the machine onto it, or you must pick up either end of the machine and walk it up, or swing it over onto the stand.

Another problem with getting your machine onto the stand is getting the machine centered. This wasn’t due to any design flaw on Cycra’s part; it just takes a few practice runs to get the drill down. Once you get it the process is easy enough.

With the machine on the stand some regular duties become much easier. It’s till too low for jobs requiring long periods of time working on lower parts of the machine, but for quick jobs such as oil changes, washing, and wheel swaps, the Shop Roll Stand works perfectly in conjunction with Cycra’s Mechanic Cart.

One of the biggest conveniences of the stand is its casters. It is possible to roll your machine sideways through the shop without having to roll it back and forth on its own wheels trying to cram in between other machines or into a corner. The extra mobility and ease of moving our machines around was a big plus.

ImageThe only kink we found in the roll cart’s armor was in its casters. Make sure your floor is free of debris before you go rolling the cart around or you’ll end up bending a wheel caster. Fortunately the casters are replaceable and easy to get through CycraThe only problem we had during our testing came when gorilla strength, Joe Magoo got impatient and shoved the machine when a pebble was lodged under one of the stand’s wheels, not allowing it to pivot. This resulted in a bent caster. We feel that the casters could be a bit beefier, but we also feel that a bit of anger management would have prevented the damage in the first place. Fortunately, the casters are replaceable and Cycra had one to us within a few days.

The Bottom Line

As we have said before, we love anything that makes chore time easier and Cycra’s Shop Roll Stand does just that. It is well thought out and although it is not perfect for every maintenance situation, it does work well for those quick jobs around the shop, garage or even the track.

What’s more, it also provides a good way to store your sport quad off the ground leaving it convenient to move around. We plan on picking up a few of them so we have one for every sport quad in our shop. Note we said sport quad. A 700lbs utility might be a little too much for the 450libs weight limit.
